Engine bay, cleaned without soaking it.
Degreased, cleaned and dressed with the electronics covered and the water pressure kept sensible. Careful is the whole skill here.
Careful matters more than powerful
An engine bay is full of things that do not want water: alternators, fuse boxes, sensors, exposed connectors and intake openings. A pressure washer pointed down the middle of a modern bay is how you get an electrical fault a week later that nobody connects back to the wash.
So the sequence is cover the sensitive parts, work a degreaser in with brushes by hand, rinse with low pressure and controlled volume, then dry it properly with air rather than leaving standing water in the valleys where it sits and corrodes things.
What it gets you beyond looking good
- Leaks become visible. On a clean bay a fresh oil or coolant weep shows up in days. On a filthy one it hides for a year.
- Grime holds heat and moisture. Caked oil and road film trap both against components that would rather have neither.
- It helps at resale. A clean bay reads as a looked-after car to a buyer, fairly or not, and it is one of the first places people open.
- Dressed, not drenched. Plastics and hoses get a matte dressing. Greasy shine looks cheap and it slings onto everything the first time you drive it.
When we will say no
If there is an active leak, exposed or damaged wiring, or a battery terminal that is corroded to the point of crumbling, cleaning it is not the first job. We will point it out and tell you to get it sorted first.
Very old vehicles with brittle connectors and cracked insulation get the same answer. There is a version of this job that is not worth the risk to your car, and we would rather tell you than find out the hard way in your driveway.
