Swirls out, gloss back.
Machine polishing that removes swirls, wash marks, light scratches and oxidation instead of hiding them under a glaze that washes off in a month.
Correction removes paint. That is the whole point
A swirl is a tiny valley in the clear coat. You cannot fill a valley permanently, so correcting it means levelling the clear coat around it with an abrasive polish until the surface is flat again and light reflects evenly.
That means correction is a finite resource. A car has a limited amount of clear coat and every correction uses a little. This is why doing it properly once, then protecting it, beats polishing a car every year because the wash keeps putting the swirls back.
What comes out, and what does not
- Comes out: wash swirls, buffer trails from a previous bad job, light scratches, water spot etching, oxidation and general dullness.
- Usually comes out: heavier scratches, if the clear coat is thick enough to level safely. We will tell you which before touching it.
- Does not come out: anything you can catch a fingernail in has gone through the clear. Polishing that just thins the paint around a scratch that is still there.
- Never worth it: polishing away a deep scratch on a panel that needs paint. We will say so rather than take the money.
One-step or multi-step, and why the honest answer is usually one
A one-step polish corrects most of the defect and finishes it in a single pass. A multi-step cuts harder first, then refines. Multi-step gets closer to perfect and costs a lot more time.
For most daily drivers around Dalton, a one-step gets the vast majority of the way there and the difference only shows under direct sun at a certain angle. We will tell you honestly which one your paint actually needs rather than selling the bigger number by default.
